1. Melbourne

Situated in Southern Australia, Melbourne is the place to be. There so much hype around this city, and it’s easy to see why, especially considering Melbourne has been voted the most livable city in the world for a number of years in a row. But what sets it apart from the rest?

Melbourne has a fantastic range of cafes, bars and shops, and with all of this, it’s no surprise at all that some refer to it as the “European enclave”, a place that is culturally and ethnically diverse. Not only that, but you can really enjoy the laid back lifestyle that Australia has to offer, particularly in Melbourne. By simply walking through the city, you can feel the atmosphere of togetherness through the buskers, the cafes and the adorned artwork.

One of the biggest draws to Australia is, without question, the beaches, and Melbourne certainly isn’t short of these. The most popular is St Kilda, which is well known for being a party hotspot. There are other beaches located in Melbourne suited to any type of visitor.

Federation Square is one of the most astonishing buildings in Melbourne, a location that highlights and celebrates culture, art and tourism within the city. As well as this, there’s plenty of great places to watch shows, eat, drink and shop. Federation Square is the heart of Melbourne and many say that without it, the city certainly wouldn’t be what it is today.

2. Sydney

Australia’s leading global city is Sydney, which has long been the most popular city in all of OZ. It is the ideal travel location, boasting a relatively warm climate all year round. The white, sandy beaches are, of course, extremely popular with locals and visitors alike. The most popular is Bondi Beach, which is a favourite among many and is always packed with people.

Sydney is also home to famous landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House, an iconic landmark where many shows are performed and Sydney Harbour Bridge, a historic steel bridge that opened in 1932, that connects central Sydney to the North Shore.

3. Lord Howe Island

Australia is a popular place and as a result it can sometimes feel that you’re sharing every experience with a whole host of other tourists. This isn’t always a bad thing as it gives you the chance to meet and get to know new people which is a big part of travelling. But for those who want to experience a little bit of paradise and get away from the crowds, Lord Howe Island is the perfect destination.

Only 400 tourists are allowed on the island at one time which is ideal for those who want to feel like they’ve got their own little island to explore. The beaches are stunning and even know its small and quiet, there’s still lots to do like scuba diving, hiking and surfing. Lord Howe Island is the perfect blend of escapism and experiencing the best beach activities that Australia is famous for.

4. Brisbane

Brisbane’s favourable climate means you can visit any time of the year. Brisbane is home to many a famous landmark, including the Story Bridge, a steel bridge that crosses the Brisbane river and is the longest cantilever bridge in Australia, making it a sight to be seen.

Melbourne and Sydney may be bigger in population and size, but Brisbane certainly has a lot to offer which makes up for it. Locals in Brisbane are friendly and are generally happy to make visitors feel welcome. And, if you’re a lover of beaches, Brisbane is the place to be. They even have inner city beaches, which rival even the most beautiful beaches in the world.

5. Queensland

Queensland is a must-see for those wanted to explore the majesty of the Australian coastline, the nature the country has to offer and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region. The most famous landmark that should be top of any visitor to Queensland’s list is the Great Barrier Reef.

It’s a world heritage site, and for good reason as it’s one of the most stunningly beautiful pieces of nature on the planet and the world’s most important reef. It’s home to thousands of tropical fish which you will get to meet if you want to go for a scuba dive. A visit to the reef really is a once in a life time experience. If you are heading for Queensland and want to visit the Great Barrier Reef, then the main towns of Cairns and Port Douglas would be the ideal base for you.

Australia really is a country that has something for everyone. You can have experiences there that you just can’t have anywhere else in the world which makes it an unforgettable experience no matter how many times you visit.
